Email spoofing is when a fraudster sends an email from a real email address, even though they aren’t the person whom the email address belongs to.
For a variety of reasons, email was not created as a secure messaging system, therefore unless the owner of a domain takes measures to secure their domain name and provides methods to authenticate that an email is real (such as DMARC) a fraudster can easily pretend to be whoever they want to be.
